Council’s General Manager John Bell said the new website replaces the former Southern Tablelands Library Cooperative (STLC) website, which became obsolete with the dissolution of the STLC on July 1, this year.
“The new website ensures a continuity of service for our library users by providing them with the services and resources they had access to via the former STLC website,” Mr Bell said.
“It allows library users to search the library catalogue and renew their library items online.
They can also download e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines, search research databases and keep up to date with what’s happening at the library through the library events and library news pages.
“In a first for the Shire the new website also includes a page for children and teens, with news, updates and resources relevant to our young library users.”
The new website is available at: www.upperlachlan.nsw.gov.au/community/library.
New library cards will also be issued to existing library members shortly, free of charge.
The STLC, which included Upper Lachlan Shire, Goulburn Mulwaree and Yass Valley Councils, ceased on June 30, 2017, following a decision by Yass Valley Council to exit the arrangement.
A new agreement between Upper Lachlan Shire and Goulburn Mulwaree Councils for the provision of library services commenced on July 1, 2017 for a period of one year, with an option to extend for a further five years.
Under the new agreement, Crookwell, Gunning and Goulburn Libraries have continued to operate with shared access to each other’s collections.
Goulburn Mulwaree’s mobile library service, the ‘Big Read Bus,’ also commenced in Taralga on July 7, 2017 and will visit Taralga every three weeks as part of a 12-month trial.
It allows library members to borrow a wide variety of books, movies and music from the bus.
A librarian is on board to assist library members with reserving items and accessing a range of online resources.
The Bus’ next stop will be outside Taralga Public School from 2.00pm-3.00pm on Friday September 8, 2017.
