The announcement was made by NSW County Eagles Rugby general manager and forwards coach Andrew Blades on Thursday afternoon.
“It’s important to the guys that we’re here, it should be a great day,” Mr Blades said.
“Alot of the guys played junior rugby here when they played country, it holds a lot of memories for them. The guys are keen to get back and see if it matches up to what they remember.”
The intiative was brought to life by the Goulburn Rugby Club, the Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Andrew Blades.
The women’s side and juniors, who will compete against long time rivals Crookwell, will play before the Eagles games.
Mr Blade said the team plans to play games in as many regional areas, and expected to return to Goulburn every few years.
“It’s a great initiative of the Country Eagles to take these games to the regional cities, and Council is a strong supporter behind the scenes in building our sporting calendar,” Mayor Bob Kirk said.
“Goulburn Mulwaree and the surrounding regions have a number of strong Rugby clubs, led by the local Goulburn Dirty Reds, and I look forward to the clash.”
President of the Rugby Union Club Matt Klem was also applauded for his work with the senior and junior teams.
The NRC is Australia’s national professional rugby union competition. For the first time, Fiji will have a team competing in this season’s games.
The game will be played on Monday over the October long weekend. Tickets will be sold at the gate; adults ($5), car ($10) and children under 18 are free.
