Upper Lachlan Shire Council has welcomed an announcement by Member for Hume Angus Taylor that the council will receive $450,000 for the upgrade of Kiamma Creek Bridge under the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program round 3.

The funding is in addition to a $531,230 funding grant under the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads program and $81,230 from the council.
The $1,062,460 project will replace the current low level, narrow, timber, 112-year-old Kiamma Creek Bridge on Laggan Road with a two-lane concrete culvert bridge, increasing the lifespan of the bridge by at least 100 years.
The road to the bridge will also be realigned, drainage will be improved and the site will be landscaped.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council Mayor Brian McCormack OAM said the bridge was a key access route for cars, caravans and heavy vehicles between the north and south of the Shire.
“On behalf of council and the community, I would like to thank the Federal and State Governments for their investment in this project,” Cr McCormack said.
“This will benefit motorists now and for decades to come.
“The upgrade will improve the safety of the bridge, increase traffic capacity, improve access for emergency and heavy vehicles and facilitate tourism by enabling greater access for caravans and RVs.
“This project will help to ensure Crookwell remains a viable place to work, live, invest and visit, now and into the future.”
Construction is scheduled to start in April 2018.
