Pooh Bear safe
Travelling on the King’s highway from the Clyde mountain to Goulburn we saw 50 wombats and 15 kangaroos that had met their demise on the side of the road, mating season has had disastrous consequences. However I'm pleased to report that Pooh Bear is safe at Pooh Bear corner on the Clyde mountain. He was searching for honey when vandals trashed his sign, he had no idea that these fools were trying to disrupt his peace, he has many bear friends again sitting at the entrance, so all is well. We can still look forward to passing this landmark and maybe Pooh will be there with his head in a honey pot.

SIGNAGE TOO LARGE
I have only recently become aware of the proposal to build a Service Station opposite the Park/Swimming Pool in Goulburn St.
My letter (read on: www.crookwellgazette.com.au) was my approach to Council on the matter.
I ask your readers to consider the objections I have raised 8 possibly add any further COCES.
I have been informed by Council that the submission period has been closed but that they may consider the matters raised by my submission when determining whether to grant approva for the Development Application.
I suggest any resident or member of the public who has a concern should raise it to Council without delay.
It is useless to complain later if you find aspects of the Development that do not Conform with the image we wish to project of our town.

DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION PENDING FOR a PETROL STATION on the corner of Goulburn Rd 8 Park St Crookwell 2583
Regarding this development I wish to strongly oppose the proposed signage for the site, an illuminated pylon sign 12m high x 2.6m wide placed at the edge of the road may be necessary in a large city with many competing businesses vying for attention.
It is a ridiculous idea on the main street of a country town where it would be impossible not to notice a petrol station even if it had no signage at all.
After 30-years of supplying signage for Crookwell town businesses including 10 different organisations selling petrol I regard the current proposal to be an insensitive desecration of the townscape.
It is even more surprising when the Council is currently working on upgrading facilities and improving streetscapes to provide a pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
A Petrol Station of any sort on the proposed site is going to be a nightmare for the residents unfortunate enough to live close by and the value of their homes will drop accordingly.
I recognise there is a precedent with a previous business having sold petrol on the adjoining site but it was a very different proposition to the intentions of the people lodging the current Development Order.
If they are allowed to trade from 5am to 11pm seven days per week as they request and their projected number of customers is 125 per hour as they have stated, we can assume that on summer weekends when the park and the swimming pools opposite will be in heavy demand by families and unaccompanied children, the traffic movements in and out of the petrol station opposite would be well above the 125 per hour average.
Hopefully Council has already taken these points into consideration while deciding on the future of the project.
I will be attempting to alert as many residents as possible to the development through the Gazette and emailing the councillors in case it has not yet come to their attention.
If enough people express concern we will move on to a petition.
