Crookwell Squash Centre hosted the Inaugural 'Crookwell Vintage Squash Tournament’ last weekend. This vintage event is for female and male players 30-years of age and above . It proves that squash is a game of skill and tactics and need not cause serious injuries. Some players who entered were over 70-years of age and going strong.
Entries were received from local players and others who travelled from Goulburn, Orange, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Wagga Wagga, Yass, Batemans Bay and Bega.
Thanks to the local players and other supporters including Vicki Kitchen, Adam Gay, Kathryn Nagle, Ashley Yeadon, Ben Zyla, Scott Harrison, James Hickey, Jesse and Toby Schofield for their support and assistance in this event.
Saturday Night Dinner was held at Crown Theatre Restaurant where everybody enjoyed the special greek tapas meal. Chrys, John and their staff displayed wonderful skills in presentation and service.
The tournament catered for all grades, culminating in an exciting final in which Nathan Fuller (Wyong) won Division 1 and runner up Mick Bayley (Canberra).
As well as being competitive, the players and spectators had a wonderful weekend. There were many sore bodies, there was plenty of laughter all round.
Hopefully players will return for our Xmas Doubles (fancy dress) Tournament in Dec. and the Open Tournament in Feb (2018). All spectators are very welcome.
Matthew and Karen would like to thank the Sponsors, local B & B’s, Hotels and Motel and local restaurants and businesses for their hospitality. Also, the friendly locals who made everyone feel welcome and specifically those who came to watch the exciting matches
