The Rotary award recognises selfless dedication to local community.

Senior Constable Finch transferred from Moree to the Hume command last year, taking up residence as the lock-up keeper at Marulan.

She gave up rank and seniority to make the transfer, but has no regrets.

“Marulan is a great little town and a great little station to work at,” Senior Constable Finch said.

“The community is great: it makes it the town that it is.”

She said she enjoyed speaking with locals, and the landscape, and was “proud and humbled” to be nominated for the prestigious award.

Hume LAC Inspector John Klepczarek accepted the award on her behalf.

At the awards ceremony, he spoke about the importance of civil leadership within the police force.

“The ironic thing is that they don’t even know that they’re doing this,” Inspector Klepczarek said.

“That’s the beauty with working for people like that.

“Kim has in her backyard a duck, a lamb, and a goat. None of those were hers, [they’re] injured animals in the community. She took them in and the vet fixed them up.

“[She] can’t go across the road for a cup of coffee without taking a report or listening [to] issues.

“That’s the [selfless] life of a country police officer [yet] she doesn’t even know that she’s doing it. I can’t stress that enough.” 

The Rotary award is selected from nominations within NSW Police ranks.
