It follows updates to the extensive library catalogue and the creation of a new Upper Lachlan Shire Library Service website – www.upperlachlan.nsw.gov.au/community/library.
The Upper Lachlan Shire Library Service commenced on 1 July 2017 after the dissolution of the Southern Tablelands Library Cooperative, which involved Upper Lachlan Shire, Goulburn Mulwaree and Yass Valley Councils. The dissolution was prompted by Yass Valley Council’s decision to exit the Library Cooperative.
A new agreement for the provision of library services was reached between Upper Lachlan and Goulburn Mulwaree Libraries for a period of one year, with an option to extend for a further five years.
The new agreement allowed for Crookwell, Gunning and Goulburn libraries to continue to operate in the same way as they did previously – with shared access to each other’s collections. Goulburn Mulwaree’s mobile library service the ‘Big Read Bus’ also commenced services in Taralga, as part of a 12 month trial.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council’s General Manager John Bell said the introduction of new library cards and the creation of the ‘Upper Lachlan Shire Library Service’ Facebook page are the final step in Council’s transition to the new Library Service.
“The new Library cards, which feature the new Library Service name and website, help us to establish a new identity away from the former Southern Tablelands Library Cooperative,” Mr Bell said.
“New Library cards are available to existing and new members free of charge at Crookwell, Gunning or Goulburn Libraries or on board the Big Read Bus. There is no time limit to change over to the new card – existing cards will remain active until a new card is issued.
“The ‘Upper Lachlan Shire Library Service’ Facebook page features news and information on Crookwell and Gunning Libraries and the Big Read Bus service. It is a great way to keep up to date with what is happening at our library services. I’d encourage anyone who has not yet seen the Facebook page to pay it a visit and ‘like’ it while you’re there.”
