Lend a hand
Recently, students from Years 3 and 4 had a wonderful outdoor learning experience planting trees and learning more about our environment. Representatives from the South East Local Land Services and Upper Lachlan Landcare ran a range of activities focussing on the preservation of habitats for native animals. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and were amazed to see how much the trees planted by previous groups of students had grown!

Grandies’ Day
Grandparents are significant people in the lives of young people. Recently many grandparents, great grandparents and special guests visited Crookwell Public School to participate in inter-generational activities to celebrate Grandparents Day. The smiles on the faces of students, grandparents and teachers just said it all! Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day, especially those who travelled long distances from places such as Melbourne, Shellharbour, Canberra and Sydney, to be with us.
Watch it grow!
This term 1/2W are beginning to learn about the way living things grow and change and what is needed for this process to occur. To begin the unit ‘Watch it Grow’, 1/2W showed off their green thumbs and planted their own tomato seeds. Over the coming weeks the students will monitor and record the changes and growth in their plants and will be enjoying delicious home grown tomatoes in the summer.
Bottle flipping
Mrs Atfield’s numeracy class took to the playground to investigate the probability of successfully “flipping” a bottle. They compared the number of successful attempts of flipping bottles containing varying amounts of fluid. The result: Year 6 had the most success with bottles that were approximately two-thirds full.
Orientation Week
Kindergarten Orientation Week was a great hit for students and parents alike. It was wonderful to welcome many new faces during Kindergarten Orientation Week and share the many wonderful things the school offers! The kindergarten students were delightful, being well behaved, enthusiastic and confident to participate in each aspect of the program while the parents were friendly, interested and appreciative. We cannot wait to see you all again in 2018 when we will have many more fabulous weeks together.
Rock and Water
The focus of the K-2 Rock and Water lesson was learning how to hold the pad and block. Students focus on standing strong while keeping the pad against their thigh. These Year 2 students work to consolidate their Rock and Water techniques to ensure they are well prepared for this component of Crookwell Public School’s Boys Education Program.
What’s the matter?
Primary students have been busy learning about matter this term and examining the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Year 5 were set a STEM challenge this week in which students had to design their own experiments to explore viscosity of various liquids. Students decided on what they wanted to find out, how they would test it, what they needed and finally the exciting test itself! There were many surprises and discussions based on their findings including: which has a higher viscosity, cold water or hot water?
