Having come from a city environment where it is very easy to just blend in, I am always impressed by the uniqueness and effort that is put into our country shows.
From the first one that I ever attended, it was apparent that they are an important part of the community that we all need to get behind.
Whilst my kids were happy to get on the rides and get into the pluto pups and fairy floss, I think that the stand out for me was coming together as a community to support our town.
As police officers, we love to be part of that social fabric.
Having spoken to officers who attended some of the shows held in our district over the last week, I am all the more confident of this.
We are only as good as the community that we work and interact with and I do know that your feedback and engagement is important to us.
One of the great things about these events is that they all have their own special blend of activities and their own take on how a show should be run.
This is probably reflective of society in general and demonstrates the benefits that you get when people are different.
We are pretty lucky in Australia to have such great diversity and acceptance within our communities.
I’m looking forward to visiting plenty more shows within our district over the coming weeks and hope to see you there!
Until next time…..
- Shows this weekend in the Hume Police District are Taralga Show (March 10-11) and Moss Vale Show (March 9-11).
