At last week’s council meeting councillors voted six to three in favour of a motion moved by Cr Richard Opie and seconded by Deputy Mayor John Stafford that the council withdraw the application for funding for the Community and Civic Centre proposal from the Building Better Regions fund in round one.
Further, they would review the application in conjunction with community consultation and due diligence, and make a further application in round two of the BBRF.
In its application, the council had sought 100 per cent funding for the $10,252,451 project under an exceptional circumstances co-funding exemption.
The council had asked for community comment on the draft plans for the proposed Community and Civic Centre until Friday, March 31.
All comments received to date will help inform a further application for funding in round two.
The initial costing for the Centre was $10,252,451. The council was seeking exceptional circumstances co-funding exemption in this application to BBRF, which means that they were asking for full funding for the project.
Although the council was seen as Fit for the Future under the recent IPART determination, it struggles to maintain services like Service NSW due to its current, substandard facilities.
