With just four horses nominated at the meeting, the recently turned 28-year-old won with all of them.

The biggest upset was the horse that set the tone of the evening, Our Triple Play. It was Hewitt’s first winner of the night and the colt beat the $1.30 favourite, Astride convincingly in the Young Derby at odds of $10.70.

“The race didn’t actually pan out as I expected,” Hewitt said. “I thought I would end up behind Astride but he didn’t come out of the gate as I expected so I had to go to Plan B. I did a bit more work in the run than what I wanted, but the horse went enormous.”

As a result of rating the third quarter in 26.4 seconds, one of the fastest 400m seen at the Young track, Our Triple Play clocked the final mile in a rate of 1:56.8, setting a new track record for the 2100m distance in the process.

Hewitt caused a minor boil-over in the next, when Spare Me Days ($5.40) beat the $2.20 public elect Yayas Hot Spot in the Group 3 Cordina Chicken Farms Young Cup. Spare Me Days made it back-to-back Young Cups gaining a dream run, after being caught three back on the pegs.

Hewitt took out the Young Oaks, with Sheza Sharpie. The $3.50 chance held on in the shadows of the post from a fast finishing Shezallapples and the $2.10 favourite Don’t Think Twice close behind in third.

Hewitt’s next winner, Recipe For Dreaming, was a short $1.20 with the NSW TAB. The gelding led throughout to rate a personal best 1:56.8 at just his third start in Australia.

“I didn’t expect to come away with four winners,” Hewitt said.

“I thought Recipe For Dreaming was my best chance of the night and Sheza Sharpie was my next best.”

The wins of Recipe For Dreaming and Sheza Sharpie helped raise money towards the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Prostate Cancer Support Group on the night as the Young Club and Harness Racing NSW donated $500 each when a horse carrying the number 4 had a top three finish.
