From the opening whistle new Pups recruit, Harry Skelly caught the ball from the kick off and hared down the touchline, stepping defenders and scoring the opening try which he converted for a Pups 7-0 lead.
This great start was soon a memory as the Brumbies piled on the pressure and scored three unanswered tries in the first half. There were no conversions by the Brumbies, so this kept the score tight at half time, with the Brumbies leading 15 to 7.
Josh Thorn, Angus Smith and Lachlan Vallender were running very strongly with the ball in attack. Kyle Croke was powerful from the penalty tap runs, Seth Kennedy and Boyd Heidrich were competing hard at the ruck and maul winning ball for the team. Loose Forward Sam McRae was producing hard hitting defence and Logan Croke defended his wing.
The second half saw a spirited fight back from the Pups and they were able to gain the ascendancy and score three tries. Pups scored a long distance try after great lead up work by Jack Seal offloading in a tackle to send Harry Skelly through a massive gap to score his second 60 metre try of the game. Kyle Croke converted the try.
Jack Searl scored a try from a long distance run showing speed and evasiveness in attack. The try was converted.
The final try from the Pups was a blind side move by half back Campbell McCormack, he was pulled up just short of the try line but a pick and drive by Josh Evans found the line to score. Josh Evans converted his own try from near the touchline.
Special mention to Ben McCormack for hitting the ball up well, Jack Pursell had his best game of the year and Jeff Fraser put in a real team effort.
The Brumbies scored an unconverted consolation try in the last minute of the game. This left the final score a win to the Pups by 28 points to 20.
