He started playing hockey when he was just 4 years old and has played in the Olympic Games, world hockey league, Commonwealth Games, and Hockey World Cup just to name a few. In his younger days, Kieran recalls playing hockey in Crookwell and knows the reputation Crookwell has of producing champion players.

Govers shared some of his experience and skills with a group of enthusiastic local players, who braved the cold weather. The players learnt some valuable skills and tips that will help them improve their hockey. Some of these included positioning of the body, stick control, dribbling practice, flicking and goal shooting.

The player’s practiced these skills under Govers’ watchful eye and he gave additional individual advise to players where required. He also encouraged the players to practice these skills at home to further enhance their game. The session concluded with a question and answer session where he gave further insight into his experiences and career as well as signing autographs for the players.

Govers also encouraged these players to get their friends involved in hockey as it is a great sport to play. Parents and spectators also enjoyed the opportunity to listen and picked up some tips that they can use to improve player skills.

It was a great opportunity for these young players to meet and learn from an experienced player like Kieran. The junior hockey committee is keen to hold further clinics like this in the future utilising our home grown hockey talent and experience as well as players like him.  These clinics not only assist our players, but they are also to encourage more players to play the sport of Hockey.

While the current season is coming to an end there will be indoor hockey run through the off season and the annual 7-a-side carnival will also be run during September.
