The Year 3/4 students enjoyed an overnight camp to Canberra, learning about Indigenous bush tucker at the Botanic Gardens.
Principal’s message
It is safe to say that this year’s Education Week celebrations were a huge success. I have been constantly receiving emails, letters, phone call and being told directly how impressed parents and community members were with the different events.
The inaugural Binit Binit concert was very well received and students enjoyed performing in front of over 400 spectators.
Likewise, our own Education Week concert on the Wednesday was very well supported with all our students enjoying the opportunity to perform in front of their community.
Principal, Danny Scott.
P&C Update
Gunning Public school P&C is affiliated with the NSW P&C Federation and is a dedicated group of Gunning Public School parents that work together with the Principal and teaching staff to provide our children with the best educational experience and outcomes we possibly can.
Over the past five years the P&C has contributed funds towards many short and long term initiatives such as the;
- Breakfast club 3 days per week;
- Stephanie Alexander kitchen/garden classes which was established in October 2014;
- Music lessons;
- Student accident insurance; and
- Major investments such as the purchase of the playground equipment, laptops, Ipads and interactive whiteboards.
The fundraising activities and fantastic volunteers that make all of this possible include the parents that donate up to three and a half days per annum for Gunning Gold, and our wonderful Canteen volunteers.
The Gunning Gold fundraiser has been an annual event for 22yrs here at Gunning Public School.
It is a revenue stream generated from outside of local community resources that involves bagging sheep manure and selling it to long standing customers in the Canberra and surrounding region just in time for spring!!
The P&C meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7pm in the school library (excluding school holidays) and we welcome everyone to come along and join in on the various topics up for discussion which range from upcoming events, the school uniform, suggestions on how to improve school communications and events, appreciation of the great work done, the yearly Gunning Gold fundraiser, and more.
So we encourage all parents to become a P&C member for just $2 per year, which entitles you to vote when decisions need to be made, and to receive a copy of the meeting minutes.
Our next scheduled meeting is Thursday 14th September 2017 at 7pm in the school library.
If you have any further questions or you would like some more information in regards to P&C please contact me by email at gunningpspc@gmail.com.
