Junior League
With the season drawing to a close and only one round remaining, we'll take care of some house keeping. Firstly, the Crookwell Junior Green Devils wish all senior teams playing their semi's this weekend the very best of luck. The last round for the Saturday competition will be a gala day at North Park Goulburn.
Please check with team managers for times etc. The last round before semis for the Canberra comp will be played at our Memorial Oval, all teams except the under 11s will play here this Sunday.
Youth League
By Phil Cramp
The clocks were set early as the Green Devils Youth League side headed off last weekend to play Harden. Maybe some of the player’s alarms didn’t work, as the team rolled on the field with only 11 players.
Though Crookwell were short players they were determined not to let Tuggeranong stop their run to the grand final. Tuggeranong, with 17 players, scored early 6-0.
Crookwell hit back with a try to Billy Cramp and goal to Max O’Brien, 6-all.
Crookwell had limited resources had to some how slow down the play with kicks to the corners and over the sidelines.Their defense stayed solid grinding their way to half time.
The boys returned after half time with steely resolve forcing Tuggeranong to make some errors.
Two tries came from Ben Croker and one from Will Stephenson putting the score line beyond doubt. The team then wound down the clock and came away with an historic win 20-6.
The Tuggeranong supporters and officials congratulated the Crookwell players and team officials on such a gutsy and courageous effort.
Dale Croker said, “I have never seen such a gutsy effort from a league side.”
Croker has seen a lot of games throughout his career and the team says he’s a pretty fair judge.
