The staff and students were very grateful to the school’s P&C for covering the cost of transport to and from the pool.
Due to the school’s increase in student numbers, they were allocated their own time slot with the swim instructors.
This meant that all students received more direct instruction and practice in the pool.
Their improvement over the period of swimming lessons showed that their efforts really paid off.
The strongest swimmers managed to develop their water safety and survival skills.
They also had additional coaching to strengthen their swim strokes and improve their style.
The youngest two groups spent most of the time swimming in the shallow end of the large pool.
This made for a big difference to their ability to apply new skills with confidence.
Swimming lessons are part of the Department of Education’s School Swimming and Water Safety Program, which covers the cost of the lessons.
The aim is to prepare all Australian children for a lifetime of safety in the water, whatever the activity.
