Thanks to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden Program, the garden and kitchen are full of students creating beautiful, healthy meals that use everyday ingredients from the kitchen.
The students have been propagating the vegetables for sale at the monthly Laggan markets, with all funds going back to the educational program.
Volunteers and staff bring expertise to make the program an educational success and a highlight for the students learning.
Cookbooks of the student’s recipes are available for purchase at the markets and school.
Also this term, the students enjoyed a week of free swimming at the Crookwell pool. Karen’s learn to swim company and the staff at Laggan joined together to develop their skills and teach water safety lessons. These sessions are preparing the students for the up-coming holiday and swimming season. The grant that the school received also enabled Laggan students to participate in basketball workshops in a supportive and friendly environment.
Technology and the movement towards coding is embraced by the Laggan school community. The students enjoyed a whole day of coding, robots and technology in their classroom which was provided by Technology Education Australia. Students were quick to learn how to build robots and then code these robots to perform different functions. The small groupings ensured that individual attention to all students gave the maximum learning curve in robotics building and coding. A brilliant day was had by all students.
Laggan Public School hosted a Small Schools day with the students being treated to an amazing Lieder Theatre performance about Gurangatch vs Mirragang. Enthused by the performance, students continued to develop a deeper appreciation for the Aboriginal dreaming, language and culture through workshops conducted by staff in art, gardening and sport.
Next year is the educational milestone of 150 years for Laggan Public. Many students and staff have taught and learnt in the school over this period. If you or someone that you know has stories, memorabilia or photos of Laggan Public, we would love to talk to you in preparation for the big day. We will be celebrating the occasion on Saturday, April 7, 2018, so please save the date.
Our year 6 students celebrated the end of their primary schooling with all the students, parents and staff venturing to Quest-a-con in Canberra which was funded by the school. Being in a small group allowed students to make full use of the exhibitions and activities at Quest-a-con. The day was topped off with a visit to Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant keeping with the ethos of the school’s direction towards good, healthy food.
Enrolments are now open for 2018.
We offer small class sizes, one on one teacher support, unique learning experiences and more.
