Formerly Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation, he takes the new title from Victoria Minister Dan Tehan and is due to join Peter Dutton in Home Affairs. 

Mr Taylor is among a handful of ministers predicted to be considered for a position in the junior ministry set to be established by parliament.

In a recent interview with the Post, he cited growth in the agricultural industry and pledged a continuing focus in attracting businesses and jobs in the district for the new year. 

According to the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research (NIEIR), jobs in agriculture, forestry and fishing has risen from 477 to 707 in the past five years across the Goulburn Mulwaree local government area.

Health care and social assistance, retail trade and education are the three industries which hire the most amount of people. 

“People and businesses are seeing a huge attraction to a centre like this,” he said. “I meet with council every month and we talk about how to attract great people and great businesses, but also support existing growth.” 

He told The Post  the federal government’s focus on the region is clear and evident via numerous bridge repairment projects, and funding to telecommunications, the Performing Arts Centre, and Rocky Hill.

“Growth comes with challenge, we don’t want a sprawl without trees and services. [We] need to keep this going, the worse thing to happen is if we fail to keep this momentum,” he said.

“The wind is in our sails.” 

My Taylor will continue to participate in discussions on same sex marriage amendments, and “strongly support a coalition led on those protections”.

He plans to spend time with family on the south coast over Christmas.
