The book was launched prior to Christmas by Author Keith Brown from Gunning.
The book has been researched and written by Mr Brown whose wife Evelyn was a resident at Viewhaven Lodge.
Keith, is the author of two other historical books, and has provided an informative and captivating account of what can be achieved when communities pull together.
The book recounts how over many decades the contributions from members of the Crookwell and Taralga communities had the vision and dedication to achieve their goal of providing facilities and care for their respective aged members.
From information sourced from the minutes of the Crookwell Frail Aged and Viewhaven Lodge plus the Crookwell Gazette archives the book was compiled.
Information also came from the Historical Societies in both Crookwell and Taralga.
Today, the aged care facilities of Viewhaven Lodge, Crookwell and Phillip Chalker Sunset Lodge, Taralga are testament to this incredible drive and compassion.
The organisation continues to provide exceptional care, beyond measure, for its many residents and clients.
Both facilities employs over 110 staff and has a host of loyal volunteers.
The book was launched during December at the Crookwell Memorial Hall.
An invitation was extended to anyone in the community to attend the launch, which saw some of the past and present residents and carers in attendance.
The crowd also including those who have played a role in the organisation’s journey.
CEO of Crookwell Taralga Aged Care, Mrs Jo Boyce said, ‘What really comes out in the book, is the outstanding spirit of so many people.
“These are ordinary folk – who worked side by side to make the earlier Banfield House and Harley Nursing Homes and now Viewhaven Lodge and Sunset Lodge the successes they have been and continue to be for the older members of our community.”
Copies of the book are now available at a reasonable cost of $18 each.
The cost of printing of the book and all proceeds from sales are being donated to Viewhaven Lodge in memory of Keith’s wife Evelyn who recently passed away.
Keith has also published; The Day that Dunkley Died on the murder of Henry Dunkley and Where Once the Wagons Went, which explores the stories behind some inns and innkeepers from Breadalbane to The Gap on the Old South Road, from 1830-1899.
Mr Brown LVO was named the 2018 Upper Lachlan Shire’s Citizen of the Year.
