The award recognises outstanding contributions by members of the Crookwell AP&H Society showing across three states.
“We are very humbled to receive this award,” said Mr Frost, principal of the stud, on receiving the trophy.
“It can’t be achieved without dedication and our whole family is very dedicated to our industry, working seven days a week. This is an award for all the family.”
The award was judged by three Crookwell AP&H society stalwarts: Roger McIntosh, Paul Anderson and Tony Hewitt.
From a selection of five multi-award winners at local, regional and national levels came the 2017 winner. The five were:
- Hillden Poll Dorset Stud, Bannister
- Bob Anderson, Talkook Border Leicester Stud, Crookwell
- Kim George, poultry, Crookwell
- Ken Wolf, Hollowmount, Bigga with David Zouch, Flock Ewe manager, and
- Ken and Liz Ikin, Cloverlee Poll Hereford Stud, Bannister.
The award is unique in the nation and recognised as prestigious. Other show societies have enquired about it. In 2016, its inaugural winner was John Williams of Thalabah Merino Stud, Laggan.
Hillden has competed at many regional and national shows and has an impressive listing of major awards that include:
- Champion Poll Dorset Ram; Supreme Champion Poll Dorset; Best Group 3 Rams - all at Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo.
- Junior Champion Ram, Grand Champion Ram, Champion Sires Progeny, Group 3 Poll Dorset, Most Successful Exhibitor - all at Australasian Dorset Championships, Bendigo.
- Senior Champion Ram, Junior Champion Ram, Grand Champion Ram, Supreme Champion Poll Dorset, Champion Group 3 Poll Dorset Rams, Supreme Champion All Breeds Ram - all at Melbourne Royal.
