It was an enlightening  and thought provoking day which led our students to really empathise with the less fortunate in our town, region, country and world.

“I enjoyed the day because it showed me the importance of Mini Vinnies and how it feels to be homeless and only having a certain amount of food for a fortnight and the experience of being homeless on our streets,” student Harry Skelly said. 

“My favourite part of the day was the first workshop which was about if you had to live on about $500 a week and you had to pay bills and rent and everything else as well as buy food. It is so disheartening to know that people are living on the streets.” 

World of Maths    

This term all students from 1-6 were engaged in a presentation of exciting and educational, hands on, problem solving activities when they attended the World of Maths.

In stage groups they worked through 17 large colorful displays with corresponding worksheets.

Each session involved a guided discovery lesson where students solved a variety of problems, discovered number patterns, identified geometric properties, thought logically and applied mathematics to the physical world.  

Yr 6 camp 

During Week Ten our 24 Year Six students travelled to the Sydney Academy of Sport at Narrabeen for their Year Six Camp.

We were extremely grateful to Trinity Catholic College in Goulburn for the generous donation of their mini bus to help transport them.

Once there they enjoyed perfect weather and each one of them found an opportunity to challenge themselves. It may have been physically, on one of the activities (High Ropes, Archery, Kayaking, Lighthouse Trek) or mentally (organising their own personal items or eating in a hall full of over 200 students!!)

Cross Country

All students from K-6 are to be commended for their participation and enthusiasm shown at our Annual Cross Country Carnival.

Congratulations to those who have now earned themselves a spot as members of our school team to compete in Braidwood next term. Thank you to our amazing band of parent volunteers, we are grateful to you all for taking time out to assist.

Bullying. No WAY!

On Friday 16 March St Mary's joined with many other Australian schools to celebrate the eighth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA).

The National Day of Action is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools and in 2018, schools were called to imagine a world free from bullying and share their big ideas. All classes were actively involved in discussions and activities to put an end to mistreatment of friends and peers.

Our whole school focus was on the theme that "it's OK to be Different". It also helped us remember that we are called to treat others the way we want to be treated.

The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence.

St Mary's staff and the whole school community would like to extend their heartfelt Congratulations and best wishes to Year Six teacher, Miss Ashlee Apps and her new husband Ben Picker.

Ashlee and Ben were married last Saturday in a beautiful ceremony at Laggan. Year Six can't wait to try out her new name in Term Two!
