Commemorations will be held throughout the shire and I’d encourage everyone to take part as we show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who served, and who continue to serve, in our armed forces. Please contact your nearest RSL Sub Branch for details on Anzac Day commemorations near you.
As part of the NSW Government’s Centenary of Anzac commemorations, a major extension of the Anzac Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park is underway.
It will include the installation of a public artwork which will display individual plaques from approximately 1,700 NSW towns, suburbs and localities where men and women enlisted to serve in World War I, with each plaque to display a soil sample collected from that location.
Among those to be featured will be locations within the Upper Lachlan Shire.
The council is honoured to be included in the Anzac Memorial Centenary Project and thanks Crookwell RSL Sub Branch Member Malcolm Barlow for coordinating the local soil collection.
When complete, the artwork will be a fitting tribute to locals who enlisted for service in World War I and will ensure that their contributions will be enshrined for generations to come.
Please note, that there will be some council closures this Anzac Day. For a full list, visit: www.upperlachlan.nsw.gov.au.
