President of the RSL Sub Branch, Richard Davison invites everyone to the dawn service to be held at 5.30am on April 25 at the Memorial Hall.

The march will commence at 2.45pm with the wreath laying at 3pm at the cenotaph followed by the commemorative service in the Memorial Hall. Lunch, for invited guests only, will be at the Sports Club at 12.30pm.   

Family and friends gathered recently at Stonequarry Cemetery when the ashes of former resident, Edward McPaul, were laid in a grave next to the graves of his parents and brother, Owen. The graveside  prayers were led by Ken Fleming. Thanks were given to the Historical Society for the provision of lunch in the Masonic Hall, where family and friends gathered following the funeral. 

Peter Davies wishes to remind residents that a meeting of the Wild Dog Working Group will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, May 2 at The Club.

Peter asks that if you are unable to attend the meeting could you please forward to him by email any pest activity updates from your property or area of responsibility for discussion at this meeting. 

Please feel free to email and invitation onto any interested people in the area. Any assistance in making telephone invitations to those who are not on email would also be appreciated. The meeting agenda will be: review previous meeting minutes, dog activity updates, next LLS funded baiting round, (to align with National Parks program, YTD LLS trapping spend in the Taralga area, third party funding opportunities and planned LLS spending for 2018/19 FY.

Popular local resident Glenn Elliott, who has had long association with the Sports Club, has taken over the presidency of the club as Steve Rose, due to other commitments, was unable to manage the work as president.

Large families were the norm in the early days of settlement. Taralga Historical Society Archives show that many of the pioneering families were connected.

Thyra Stewart; Jane (1869) married James Lang; George (1874) married Jane Bradbury; Ann (1876) married Jeremiah Lang; John (1878-1878); Charles (1879-1942) married Amy Jane Toole; Margaret (1883) married Thomas Kite; Alice married Dal Elliott. 

Mary Marmont married Michael Maynard in 1850.

Their children were:  Mary Ann (1869) married Thomas Wilson;  John (1874-1926) married Euphemia McDonald; Thomas (1877) married Ada Duncan; William (1879) married Ann Mary Marmont; Margaret (1880-1880); Caroline (1881-1907); Francis (1883) married Emmaline McAlister; James (1891) married Eileen (Dolly) McNeilly; Patrick Joseph  married Clare McKeough; Gertrude (1891-1891).
