Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend commemoration services and events across the state next Wednesday (April 25) to remember those who lost their lives in service to their country.
Operation Broadside commander, acting Assistant Commissioner Tony Cooke, said people should act appropriately on one of the country’s most solemn and important national days.
“Anzac Day is about honouring and remembering all those who fought, endured, suffered and died to defend our rights and maintain our freedom,” Commissioner Cooke said.
“An operation involving general duties police, assisted by officers from a range of specialist units, will be in place across the [Sydney] CBD with officers keeping an eye out for dangerous, criminal or anti-social behaviour.
“Although this year’s Anzac Day falls mid-week, we are still anticipating big crowds [in Sydney] so remember the reasons for commemorating this day and act in the true Anzac spirit: look out for your mates,” Commissioner Cooke said.
