The work, which has spanned almost four years, was officially opened last week.
It included restorations to curves north of Crookwell in an effort to improve safety and provide better access for longer vehicles.
The state government provided $10 million to upgrade and seal the final 10km of gravel road between Crookwell and Bathurst.
“Today is a historic day and one to celebrate, as Main Road 54 provides locals and tourists access to the Tablelands and facilitates the movement of freight and livestock,” Ms Goward said.
“This package of work was completed three months ahead of schedule and resulted in safer conditions for the people who use this road each day.
“It has also improved access for all road users by providing an all-weather and more durable road surface, as well as reducing maintenance costs.”
Roads and Maritime Service acting director for the Southern Region Mitch Judd thanked the community for their patience and support while the work was carried out.
“On behalf of council and the community I would like to thank the NSW Government for their $10 million contribution to this project, which is an investment in our future,” Upper Lachlan Shire Council Mayor Brian McCormack said.
“Better roads mean more opportunities for business, tourism and population growth. It is a great outcome for our Shire and the region.”
