It was great to have a number of younger members attend and Tara Smith was elected as deputy chair.
Keynote speaker was Detective Senior Constable Mick Calleja, our local rural crime investigator, who outlined his role and the recent developments in rural policing, many of which are a result of NSWFA lobbying.
He talked about various aspects of rural crime and emphasised the importance of keeping firearms safely.
During his presentation, Mick handed out tags to insert in the empty chamber during of rifles during storage and transport, which shows that the firearm is unloaded. He emphasised that people should report any rural crime to local police and ask that he be informed.
The members supported continued scholarships to TAFE rural students and an ANU rural medical student, as well as continued sponsorship of Goulburn Show Young Farmer Challenge.
Three motions were discussed and later forwarded for debate at our annual conference in Sydney in July 4. Delegates plus alternates were endorsed to attend from Goulburn Branch.
Various reports from those involved in association committees were tabled and discussed.
Discussion also revolved around getting younger farmers more involved and we hope to organise suitable activities later in the year.
