Rugby League
Crookwell She Devils
The She Devils tackled the Boorowa Roverettes on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Memorial Oval on their annual Ladies Day weekend.
The round 9 clash was a crucial one for Crookwell, a loss would see them slip a spot on the competition ladder, and a win would get them a 4 point buffer from their closest rivals.
It didn't take long for the She Devils to signal their intentions. 5min in, Annika Picker intercepted a ball and was pulled up 40m out from the try line. A quick play of the ball saw it spread right and a flying Danica Lenane hit the gap and went on to score untouched, the conversion missed, 4/0.
From the restart Crookwell made some easy metres up field and a handy penalty saw them 20m out from the try line. A beautiful kick on the 4th tackle into the in goal saw Annika Picker dive through the defence to ground the ball. The kick successful, score 10/0.
The next quarter of the game saw some good defence from both teams and it wasn't until 10min left in the half when Jayde Della hit onto the ball on the halfway line and eluded 4 defenders to streak away scoring next to the posts. The kick successful by Tatum Lenane, going into the break 16/0.
The second half started like the first for Crookwell, with Ashley Picker getting her first try for the year when she ran away for a 50mtr try under the posts. Tatum lenane adding the 2 points, score 22/0.
The Roverettes didnt give up and posted a try two minutes later, conversion unsuccessful 22/4.
The She Devils didn't take the foot off the pedal, posting two more tries. The first was when the She Devils battering ram Laura Fletcher sprinted down the sideline and dived full stretch to beat two defenders. The second when Danica Lenane picked up her second try of the day, showing great speed to outpace the chasers and touch down next to the posts. With one conversion missed the score was 32/4.
Boorowa picked up a late try but it was all to late, the final score 32/10.
Jayde Della picked up the 3 points with Danica Lenane 2 and Laura Fletcher 1 rounding off the best and fairest points.
Tatum Lenane was awarded player’s player.
Coach Paddy Lenane was very happy with his team’s effort saying "we are starting to play as a team now and not individually and it is really pleasing to see all the girls working hard for each other and sticking together."
