A leisurely ride through the countryside turned to tragedy for a group of motorcyclists on Wednesday.
A 71-year-old Canberra man lost his life after he rounded what police described as a sweeping right-hand bend on the Taralga to Crookwell Road. Inspector John Sheehan said the man, from Curtin, ACT, lost control of the bike which then crashed into a ditch.
Police and emergency services were called to the Laggan Road, some 25km from Crookwell at about 1pm. The man died at the scene.
Inspector Sheehan said the male had been riding with a group of about 30 motorcyclists, who had not long left Taralga, when the accident occurred. The man was riding ahead of the others but they alerted emergency services when they encountered the accident.
Police have not released the man’s name.
They are preparing a report for the coroner.
