The idea of placing a memorial bench was put forward by the late Margaret Wihttaker who, with her friends and the enormous support of Maureen Lynam and Lynam’s Restaurant, were instrumental in the fundraising efforts of the Crookwell Breast Cancer Support Group.
Brian Bowles designed and build the bench which is now located in front of the Commonwealth Bank building.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council mayor Brian McCormack also attended the opening ceremony.
Russell Lynam thanked those attending for holding Maureen in their memories.
The decision to erect the memorial bench was announced by the Upper Lachlan Shire Council in May to commemorate Maureen’s decades of service to the community.
A second bench was dedicated to the Rabone family for their service in the war.
The second bench is expected to be housed in Memorial Park.
