Duty officer for Southern Tablelands Rural Fire Service Ian Kennerley said Hume Highway was now open.
Rural Fire Service operational officer Daniel Osborne said the fire was reported not long before midday on the southern side of the Hume Highway at Meadow Creek, about 1km south of Gunning.
It had burnt out an approximate 80 metre by 40m area. It is believed that the cause of the fire was from a piece of shredded tyre from a truck on the highway.
