The Harlequins under 14s, made up of rugby union player from Braidwood, Crookwell and Goulburn, took on Daramalan last Saturday, August 11, on Poidevin Oval.

From the start the pace was quick and both teams showed no fear in running the ball. Daramalan ran the ball directly, and the Harlequins defence was tested early.

Daramalan were strong on the ball, and the game went from end to end. Daramalan scored first and both teams were trying to stamp their authority on the game.

The Harlequin boys had to physically step up and you could see the determination was all over their faces.

Our forwards had some strong runs, but Daramalan were very solid in the forwards and this proved to be challenging for the Harlequins to get the upper hand.

At half time the score was 12 – 7, and the game could have been anyone’s.

In the second half Daramalan increased the pressure, and were able to secure two quick tries. The Harlequins tried to get back into the game, but defensively the opposition was too strong.

Overall the Harequins have improved over the season and considering this is a new squad of players from Braidwood, Crookwell and Goulburn they have really progressed. It is great to see the teamwork forming and this is a really good sign for the future of Rugby in the Area.

Best and Fairest points went to Sam Watson three, Abe Riley two and Digby Bell one.

Next week the Harlequins are playing Cooma Red Devils in Cooma at 11.30am.

The previous Saturday, August 4, the Harlequins under 14 Boys played Canberra Grammar, on, Braidwood Oval as the curtain raiser before the Braidwood Redbacks and ADFA main game.

The weather seemed to improve at kick off and the field looked fast.

From the start, the game was physical and both teams showed they were up for a solid contest.

The Harlequins forwards showed good cohesion and we are now starting to see the skills and teamwork develop.

The game was well contested and the pace was quick and both teams showed no fear in running the ball.

The Harlequins capitalised on some quick phases and moved the ball wide and were first to score.

At half time the Harlequins were in front, and Grammar were throwing everything at the boys.

The boys continued to step up physically and we are now seeing some good combinations as a team. At times both teams played the game in the middle of the field, and  tried to grind each other down. The Harlequins got the ball to the Backs and there were some good meters gained.

Jai Moorby  and Finn Gibson scored two try’s each and Angus Smith kicked two conversions.

The tackling is improving and the boys should be really proud of their efforts as their commitment and hard work is paying off. The game was played in a great spirit, and both teams should be commended.

Grammar stepped up at the end at the end of the second half and the Harlequins held them out. The final score was Harlequins 24 Grammar 10.

Best and Fairest points went to: Three for Angus Smith, two to Digby Bell and one to Finn Gibson.
