“The victim was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital after receiving lacerations to the back of his head and abrasions to his back and right knee,” police said.
He was returned to the prison that evening.
Investigations are underway on what sparked the attack and no one has been charged at this stage.
Goats on roads
There seems to be more goats on roads around the Marulan area as well kangaroos and wombats in the Southern Tablelands.
Sergent Nick O’Flynn said the most important thing when coming across an animal on the road is to not swerve and to slow down.
“Don’t swerve. It’s better to hit the animal than to drive into another car or tree,” Sgt Flynn said.

“I would drive to the conditions particularly at night. I don’t go much faster than 60km/h.”
Backyard fire
There was a reported structure fire in Goulburn on Saturday, but it turned out to be a small fire in someone’s backyard and was extinguished before the fire brigade arrived.
Early fire season
An announcement is expected to be made in the near future on whether an early fire season will be declared.
Operational officer with the RFS Southern Tablelands Zone Daniel Osborne said residents should be careful of the possibility of starting fires and to start preparing for the summer fire season.
“Residents need to ensure they have a bushfire survival plan and should start to think about preparing their properties for the summer,” Mr Osborne said.
