Total fire ban declared for Saturday September 15

The Rural Fire Service, Southern Tablelands declared a Total Fire Ban for Saturday September 15 for the Southern Tablelands, ahead of dry, windy conditions.

The alert will remain in place from midnight tonight for a 24 hour period at this stage, said Inspector Ian Kennerley.

The Total Fire Ban restricts any open fire; lighting or maintaining, or use of fire in the open, or any activity likely to cause a fire.

Permits are also suspended, and may only resume after the ban is lifted.

“If a fire breaks out in these conditions, you should only stay with your home if it’s well prepared, and you are able to actively defend it. Leaving early is always the safest option,” said Inspector Kennerley.

“That’s why it’s so important that people are prepared by having a bush fire survival plan, so they know what to do if a fire affects their community.”

Residents can stay informed by checking, calling the bush fire information line on 1800 679 737, or by downloading the ‘Fires Near Me’ app for smart devices.
