Although it is normally held after the last round of the year, club secretary Ellie McGeechan explained that the AGM is being held earlier than normal this year to encourage better participation.
“Usually we do it after our last round game, but this year we’ve decided to do it before our comp actually starts,” McGeechan said.
“Hopefully they’re a little bit more keen to get it going and to play again, so they’re more likely to attend.”
In a statement released to the Gazette, the club said that “all positions are vacant and will need to be filled before the season can kick off.”
They also encouraged all interested players, referees, and coaches to attend and have their say on the upcoming season.
One point on which the new committee will quickly have to convene is the women’s competition. The club said that it is “up in the air as to how it will run and for how long it will run.
The last few seasons have seen numbers lag in the women’s competition.
“That’s sort of been the [pattern] last few seasons,” McGeechan said.
“Last year, I think we had about four teams, and by the end of the season it was two full teams that were filling in for each other. It’s been a struggle for the last few years.”
The club “strongly encourage[s] any women that are keen to come and play to come to the meeting to discuss how they think the women’s competition can be a successful one.”
Meanwhile, the junior competition will also run as it always has. It requires the time and support of generous volunteers, and the club added that “in order for the junior competition to get up and running we need some volunteers to put up their hand to help run the competition.
“The hard work for the juniors is already done through the seniors, [and] the main duties for the junior competition include:
- Helping to gather nominations and payment for players.
- Helping to organise the players into teams (only the first few weeks).
- Setting up fields on Wednesday afternoons.
- Refereeing/Coaching.
- Keeping track of the score cards and tallying points each week.
- Organising end of year presentations and finals.”
The juniors competition includes children from the ages of five to 16.
The men’s competition will run as it always has, and interested teams are encouraged to contact Jamie McIntosh on 0431 570 480 to register.
The AGM will take place on September 26, 2018, from 6.30pm at the Crookwell RSL.
For any questions about the AGM or expressions of interest, contact Jamie McIntosh or Ellie McGeechan on 0427 896 056.
Crookwell Touch encourages participants to start getting their teams together, and added that more information will become available after the AGM.
