The cost involved to upgrade Hay Street was cited as a concern, as was, maintenance costs, environmental impact, and safety of RV's accessing Hay Street off Salesyards Road.
Council will review a new site on Park Street, between the Crookwell Railway Station and the Crookwell Community Men's Shed.
Correspondence to council from Peter Simpson, secretary of the Crookwell Heritage Railway said the committee had already contacted the John Holland Rail Country Regional Network (JHRCRN), and an application forwarded to council for the use of the site.
Councillor Richard Opie is adamant that domestic travellers are the biggest contributors to regional tourism, and without a free RV site in Crookwell businesses would miss out on this growing segment of tourism.
Figures released by Caravan Industry Australia have revealed that caravanning and camping around the country reached 52.8 million nights for the year-end to June 2018, with over 6.3 million caravan and camping domestic visitors choosing to eat out at a restaurant or café.
The current caravan site which is owned by the council is equipped for tents, caravans, and campervans.
The new site would accommodate larger RV's and motorhomes - the difference, an RV and motorhome are live-in vehicles.
Both councillors Brian McCormack and John Searl stated that revenue loss at the site at the Laggan Road corner of Goulburn Street needs to be considered before moving ahead with a new plan.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia is an RV Club with over 70,000 members and are actively campaigning for RV Friendly Towns across Australia, both Gunning and Bigga are RV friendly.
