NSW Farmers strongly supports local food and fibre production and associated activities. In the Goulburn region, the NSW Farmers’ Goulburn branch supports a number of events and initiatives. This includes the National Agriculture Day function at the Grace Milsom Centre on the evening of Thursday November 21, which the branch is supporting once again as a sponsor.

Goulburn branch deputy chair Tara Smith will be one of the guest speakers at the function, which carries the theme of rural resilience. Education of young people in rural communities is vital and remains a focus for the branch. Branch representatives were privileged to be invited to the recent ANU Rural Med student annual end of year function. It was a great opportunity to meet our NSWFA Scholarship winner Johnny Fang and his fellow students again, together with the new crop of students undertaking the third year of their course in Goulburn next year and to wish them all the best for their future careers. The Goulburn branch will also be presenting scholarships to local TAFE wool and agriculture students late this month. We feel it is important to encourage skills training as there is a shortage of skilled rural workers.
The Crookwell community is working hard seeking funding for the establishment of an Australian Agricultural Centre (AAC) to provide a Centre of Excellence for Education and Demonstration of Australian Agriculture. The branch supports this proposal for a multi-purpose facility showcasing agriculture’s food and fibre processes whilst demonstrating technology and innovation. It is aimed to be a major drawcard for local, interstate and overseas tourism and also provide educational aspects for students of all ages. NSW Farmers Upper Lachlan branch chair Robyn Alders is on the AAC community committee.
