Arcadia Crookwell was opened in 2014.
“We saw the need for a retail outlet in Crookwell that would provide not just a shopping experience for local people but could also become a destination for tourists and visitors to the town,” say Christine Seaman and David Johnson, owner-operators of the business.
“The building in which Arcadia Crookwell is located is a wonderful piece of architecture that has been lovingly restored but still speaks of its past,” they added.
“It had been vacant for several years and was waiting to be rediscovered and put to use.”
In putting it to good use, the merchandise you find inside does not come from just one business, but 30.
As such, “The three people who work in Arcadia Crookwell are responsible for sale of the goods, customer assistance and general running of the business.”
Then, “Each of those 30 people have responsibility for their own business including stock and presentation of their area, [although] they are not required to be present during business hours.”
This also means the variety inside Arcadia is vast.
“As a retail outlet we offer a wide and varied range of goods. With 30 individual businesses under our roof we can offer something for everyone. We range from ladies clothing and accessories, home decorator items and giftware, Italian ceramics, babywear, lollies and chocolates, old wares and re-purposed furniture together with pieces of antique furniture.”
That makes the business pretty special, partly “because of the beautiful building it is located in.
“Walking through the doors at Arcadia Crookwell is like walking into an Aladdin’s Cave with such a variety of goods to browse and discover.”
Once you’re in there, “We offer a contemporary shopping experience with old fashioned service.”
This time of year, “Customers are beginning to search for Christmas gifts with smaller affordable items popular but are also looking for new and fresh summer clothing.”
Christine and David also say “Working in our community allows us to contribute in a small way to the overall economy of the town and also allows us to build relationships with our customers and to connect with visitors.
“Arcadia Crookwell has a major presence in Crookwell because of its location and because we open both Saturday and Sunday to cater for visitors and tourists.”
Additionally, “David Johnson is president of the Crookwell Progress Association, I am president of that Crookwell View Club,” Chrinstine says.
Arcadia Crookwell is at 77 Goulburn St Crookwell.
