Allocated a total of 10 race meetings for this season, Goulburn is experimenting with two block periods of racing.
The first block of racing is scheduled to encompass the December-January period, and the second block of race meetings will commence on the last Monday in April, and continue each fortnight over the months of May and June 2019.
The season’s highlights will include the popular Hewitt Memorial Crookwell race day on Sunday the January 13, 2019, followed a fortnight later by the Goulburn Carnival of Cups race day on the Australia Day public holiday, Monday January 28, 2019.
The two meetings carry combined prize money of over $170,000 and should prove a great attraction to the best horses racing in country NSW.
The $12,000 Hewitt Memorial race has seen many good winners since it was first held and will once again be supported by the $12,000 Walla Walla Stakes for the fast class pacers.
The race day, which continues to grow in popularity, will also play host to a number of fundraising activities for the Crookwell Community Trust.
The Crookwell Community Trust provides aid to people of the Upper Lachlan Shire who have experienced extreme difficulties due to personal trauma and or natural disaster.
The shire includes towns such as Gunning, Crookwell, Taralga, Binda, Bigga and Tuena, and each year tens of thousands of dollars are provided to those who have suffered.
Trust members will conduct a mega raffle and look forward to distributing some great prizes to the lucky winners.
And in a further development, race goers at this season’s Hewitt Memorial race day will be able to hear the singing talents of Thomas and Lachlan Bensley who perform together as Short Notice.
Meanwhile, Monday’s race meeting at Goulburn will be an afternoon affair with the first race having been tentatively scheduled to start at 1.24 pm.
Gates to the course will be open from 11.30 am and the club encourages its many fans and followers to support the businesses that sponsor racing at Goulburn, and thanked those sponsors for their support in allowing the races to be run.
