Crookwell have amassed an imposing record so far in the 2018/19 season. The win over Wollondilly was their fifth from seven fixtures, and it consolidated a slim two-point lead in the rankings over second-placed St Joseph’s Blue.
In the course of their eventual 48-run victory, the Crookwell juniors was a little rusty following their cancelled match against St Joseph’s Blue the weekend prior.
Their batting did now flow with its usual fluency, but a gritty innings from Oliver Corbally Stourton (55) was enough to guide Crookwell to a total of 123 from 28.3 overs.
In reply, Wollondilly stuttered to 75 all out. Some defiant innings from Nate Scanes (17) and Simar Gill (9) gave them hope, but ultimately Crookwell’s bowlers overwhelmed their young opponents.
Oliver proved his worth as an allrounder in the victory, as he took 2-4 off three overs to go with his first innings half-century. Mitchell Lyons (2-7) and Jake Cosgrove (2-10) also stood out among the many bowlers used by Crookwell.
This Saturday, Crookwell will take on St Joseph’s Maroon at Todkill Park. The match will begin at 8.30am.
