The junior hockey kicked off first, and featured a clash between JHD and Ritual for the title. In the end, JHD came away victorious from a hard-fought clash, 9-7.
President of the Crookwell indoor hockey sub-committee, Meghan McGregor, said that it was a “tight win over an amazing Ritual who had an incredible season.
“You two teams fought it out all year.”
The president added that she was pleased with the progress made by both sides over the course of the season.
“I’m impressed with how far you’ve come with your hockey, you’ve improved out of sight,” she said.
The end of the 2018 season marked the end of a busy year, and the club noted some of the achievements and landmarks reached by its members.
- Mason Kearney moved to the seniors’ ranks.
- Will Heffernan kept goal for all teams, all season, and also played at the State Championships for Sydney South and New England.
- Mason Kearney (ACT), Josh Evans (ACT), and Sam McGregor (NSW) will take part in the Nationals to be held in Goulburn in January.
“It’s a bit of a star-studded lineup in the tin shed at Crookwell at the moment,” McGregor said.
Once the juniors were done and dusted, it was then time for the seniors to take the field for another hotly-anticipated clash.
This year’s grand final was played between the Strikers and the Tappers, and it was the latter who came away with the win in another competitive match, 11-13.
It was a fitting grand final in a year which was so close that any of the top four teams – all of whom finished on the same number of points – could have been champions.
The match also featured an interesting piece of familial trivia: umpire Luke McGregor had two sons on court, Jacob McGregor, who played for the Strikers, and Zac McGregor, who played for the Trappers.
Unfortunately, Jacob suffered a chipped bone in his index finger with two minutes to go in the match and was forced to go to hospital.
The association would like to thank the IGA for its ongoing support of indoor hockey in Crookwell.
