William Luck and several representatives suggested that meetings could be held electronically via Skype or teleconference at the ordinary council meeting on December 22.
The youth council is seeking the support of the Upper Lachlan Shire Council (ULSC) to establish a more effective youth council which collaborates across the entire Shire.
“We want more representation in aid and in support of council,” William said.
The youth council furthered their requests to include: support for transport; varying meeting locations; or that the council considers electronic meetings.
At least one member of the youth council will sit Year 12 exams this year and cannot afford to exhaust time travelling for hours to attend meetings, between studying. Others aged under 17, without a licence, rely on parents or friends to ferry them.
The Gunning Youth Representative Council has spent the past three years seeking the support of the council to ensure that the voices of the youth across the Shire are heard.
“This is something we are very committed too,” William said.
They also requested that the council actively requests and pursues feedback from all young people and that they would act as an advisory body to youth affairs.
They have the support of the Gunning Focus Group, Gunning District Association, Lions, and have met with both Councillor’s Pam Kensit and John Searl.
Mayor John Stafford said that the council would put it on the agenda.
