Ms O’Connor said she gets most of her information from the television and radio; however, she would like to learn how to use digital social media sites, such as Facebook, to stay connected.
In contrast to the millennial generation, they do not have a Facebook account, do not go online shopping, and mostly live their lives offline.
Although, their enthusiasm for an introduction to the digital world is obvious.
Ms O’Connor said she wished she knew how.
This year starting in February digital skills and staying connected online will be offered to seniors in both Crookwell and Gunning.
The program delivered in partnership by the NSW Government’s popular Tech Savvy Seniors program and Telstra, would provide free or low cost training to help older people learn to use computers, tablets and smartphones.
There are among 130 locations across NSW where the program would be delivered in 2019.
“We know that older people experience higher rates of social isolation and mobility issues, especially in regional areas, which is why at the last election we committed to delivering this program to rural locations to ensure more seniors can take advantage,” Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies said
“Tech Savvy Seniors empowers older people to take advantage of the digital word to keep up with friends and family.”
There will be two training modules with six sessions held at Crookwell Library from February 6, and Gunning Library on March 5.
