With the rush of the festive season now over, I find myself preparing for the coming year and starting to think about what I would like to change.

Like most people, I often come up with a New Year’s resolution that has been a bit hit and miss with the results. I thought that I would try and give it a little bit more thought this year.
One of the first things I realised was that I needed to focus more on all of the good things in my life, as opposed to setting expectations that were perhaps not realistic. We live in a great country where people have the opportunity to be whatever they want to be.
It is so easy to get caught up in first world problems and forget the benefits of family, friends and a great environment.
I was speaking to someone the other day and we were talking about how everyone has the chance to be a leader.
It doesn’t matter that you are not running the show in your organisation or the captain of your local sporting team, because every single person is responsible for taking the lead in their own lives and they also have the opportunity to positively influence someone else’s world.
I thought that I would start with something simple, like making sure that I say hello to people when I am wandering down the street.
There is no doubt that there is a huge difference in country vs city environments and I have noticed that you’re more likely to get a ‘g’day’ in the country.
I know from my own life that simple interactions can often be a big deal in someone else’s world and we never quite know what is playing on someone’s mind.
Whatever New Years resolution you have come up with, try not to forget all of the good things that you have going on and just say g’day to maybe make someone else’s day.
