To mark the end of the summer reading club, which runs from December 1, 2018, to January 31, a party was held at the Crookwell Library today, January 24.
Crookwell Library has participated in the program since December 2003, and Gunning Library joined for the first time last year, library services manager, Michaela Olde, said
“The summer reading club program, which is held throughout Australia, is a great way to encourage young people to read throughout the summer holidays, building literacy and fostering a love of books,” Ms Olde said.
“Children who participate are encouraged to read as many books as possible and there are prizes and activities, both online and in the library, to keep them motivated through the duration of the program.
“This year’s theme, Curious Creatures, was an opportunity for participants to explore and connect with a curiosity of creatures, both real and imagined.
Both Gunning and Crookwell Libraries had a selection of books to fit the theme for pre-schoolers through to high school students.”
“I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in this year’s summer reading club program and encourage as many young people as possible to join in next summer.”
