He first attended in tow of his family at 10 months old.
“All the families eagerly awaited for the show to arrive,” he said. “Quite often it was the only opportunity to see one another. Back then, it was pretty remote.
“I distinctly remember the pine trees that were sown all around the grounds. All the families used to gather underneath and the women would roll out a rug and there the scones and jam would go.
“They had a big water boiler; you’d go and buy a bucket of hot water for your tea. Dad used to give them two-bob.
“The people that show [livestock, cattle, sheep and horses] here are up there at the best of the nation.”
The judging on Friday in the pavilion is the real heartbeat of the place, he said.
Mr Anderson is often at the showgrounds sometimes seven days a week.
“The show is just a piece of the jigsaw these days.”
The sub-committees hold events throughout the year, including team sorting and the Flock Ewe Competition.
