If there was still any lingering uncertainty about that statement before the weekend, the Dogs dispelled it with an emphatic 29-22 victory over the Jindabyne Bushpigs on Saturday.
Played at the Crookwell Memorial Oval, Crookwell and Jindabyne's clash decided who would take second position on the ladder, behind the still-unbeaten Taralga Tigers.
The Bushpigs have shown all season that they are a force to be reckoned with, however a greatly-improved Dogs outfit under the guidance of Bruce Nixon has won seven of their last eight matches.
"We've got a very tough run home from now, and it was important to win these last couple of games after our bye, to keep the momentum we've slowly been building," Nixon said.
Nixon admitted that the Dogs were not at their best during the game, but that makes their achievement all the more impressive.
"We played very well in the first 10, 15 minutes, and then lost our way in the middle," Nixon said.
"And then in the last 15 minutes, the boys started trusting themselves. We were behind on the scoreboard, and then to turn around, they came home and trusted their structures and scored a try late."
After a strong start to the season, Jindabyne have now lost five of their last seven matches, two of which came against Crookwell.
But the Bushpigs are a side against whom no quarter can be given, and for the Dogs to win despite not playing their best football is a significant confidence boost going into a tough period.
The match also marked Crookwell veteran Neil Seaman's 300 and final game. Seaman came off the bench in the second half and gave a typically determined performance in his last outing for the Dogs.
This weekend, the Dogs are at home against the Braidwood Redbacks. The last time the two teams met, Braidwood upset Crookwell with a 12-9 victory, which the Dogs will be looking to avenge.
The match will begin from 2.30pm on Saturday June 29 at the Crookwell Memorial Oval.
