We saw it in the Cricket World Cup, when Afghanistan came within a whisker of upsetting Pakistan.
We saw it at Wimbledon on Monday night, when five-time champion Venus Williams was defeated by 15-year-old Cori Gauff, who is ranked 313 in the world.
And on Saturday afternoon, we very nearly saw the Braidwood Redbacks score a repeat upset against the Crookwell Dogs.
After jumping out to an 18-0 lead in the first half, the Redbacks proved why they are a side which no team can take for granted in 2019.
A try in the 25th minute kicked things off for Braidwood, and they followed it up with two tries shortly after the half-time break to take the score to 18-15.
For the remaining 30 minutes of the match, an arm wrestle ensued for control. The Dogs fought to regain the momentum which they had shown for the first portion of the game, and through a gritty defensive effort, they managed to fend off a rampant Redbacks outfit.
While it was again a far-from-perfect outing for Crookwell, it will please head coach Bruce Nixon that they managed to rally when it mattered and prevent the visitors from taking the lead.
This Saturday, the Dogs will travel to Bungendore to take on the Mudchooks at Mick Sherd Oval. The match will kick off from 2.30pm.
