He was elected to the Men's Bowling Club Board in 1994 as a director, then in 1997 became vice president.
Austin also served as president during the amalgamation of the Bowling Club and Services Club, and in 2017 was elected patron.
Austin's name appears many times on the honour boards at the bowling club, with his highest achievment being runner up in the number seven state pennant finals at Armidale in 2000.
Although Austin does not frequent the green as much anymore, he with his wife Laurel are always volunteering their time to helping out at tournaments that come into town.
It was resolved at a general committee meeting and accepted at the Annual General Meeting of members held on Sunday, July 21, that Austin become a life member of the Crookwell Men's Bowling Club. Congratulations Austin!
