The construction included the repair and installation of new playground equipment as well as a barbecue, shelters and picnic benches. There is also a new toilet block with disabled access and drainage works.
It was created with wet weather in mind and the new tables are sheltered, proving popular for celebrations.
"I like the tables because when they weren't at the park there were only three tables there and now there are way more seats for birthdays and parties," Taylah, a Year 4 student at Taralga Public School said.
Upper Lachlan Shire Mayor John Stafford said the $242,000 upgrade was partly funded by the state government and the council.
"The newly upgraded Goodhew Park will benefit local families, and assist in the economic development of the town," Cr Stafford said.
"With increased tourist traffic through Taralga, the upgrade to Goodhew Park will encourage more travellers to stop, and spend some time in this beautiful town."
The project was funded with a contribution of $50,000 by the NSW Government's Community Building Partnership program.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the program aimed to improve the natural environment and recreational facilities.
"This upgrade to Goodhew Park has given a new lease on life to what was an already well used park, making it a facility that can be enjoyed by varying ages and abilities," Mrs Tuckerman said.
What do Taralga Primary School kids think?
- "I like the cooking areas because they're nice and better than the old ones. However, I think the old one could have been removed or replaced by a newer version," Cameron, year 5.
- "I really liked the new barbecues because they are really easy to use and we used them to cook the sausages for my party, in addition they were nice and warm! However, what I didn't really like is that the toilets are just blocks of metal with a hole, meaning that there wasn't any toilet seat or backrest," Regan, year 6.
- "I mostly liked the new barbecues because they don't take too long too turn on. However, the new toilets aren't very good due to them having smaller toilet blocks and a very dull colour and you could have still used the old toilets," 'L', year 6.
- "I like the running thing because it has one of my favourite colours, which is green. I play on it and it is fun but I hurt my nose on that pole," Oscar.
- "I like the new swings because I can get much higher than Oscar. The park needs some more things like a better skate area," no name.
- "I don't really think that they did a very good job. They could have put more play equipment but the toilets are much better," Lilly, year 4.
- "I like everything in the park, except for the toilets [which] are cramped," 'A', year 3.
- "I like the parks new things like the tables and the barbecue and the toilets. They could have added some more things and I like how they kept the big sitting table shelter, because it is really helpful," Lucinda, year 5.
- "I like the new toilets in the park because they are less creepy and they are good colours, but they need bubblers," Maggie, year 3.
- "I like the swings because they don't make sounds. I think they should do more work on the skate park where there are holes," Kobee, year 4.
- "I like the tables because when they weren't at the park there were only three tables there and now there are way more seats for birthdays and parties. The old tables were all broken and the paint was peeling because of how old they were and the rain, but now since they have a roof on top of them, its way more secure," Taylah, year 4.
- "I really like the new toilets in the park because the old toilets scared me with the writing on the walls. However, the council blocked the whole play equipment site just to knock over the wings and put new swings in the site, plus I thought they were going to put some more equipment there," Hannah, year 4.
