Under new legislation introduced on July 1, 2019, the tax office is reuniting people with missing parts of their superannuation.
The new law requires superannuation funds to report and pay inactive low balance accounts to the ATO, including accounts that have not received a contribution for 16 months with a balance below $6000.
So far, over 2.3 million low balance accounts have been transferred, with over 841,000 accounts already consolidated.
People who think they are eligible should update their bank details with the ATO online via MyGov.
"It's important to do your future a favour by engaging with your super now," ATO assistant commissioner Graham Whyte said,
"I recommend using ATO online to check that you aren't missing out on any lost or unclaimed super that's being held by us or your super fund."
